The Punctum Fixum-Punctum Mobile Model: A Neuromuscular Principle for Efficient Movement Generation?
According to the "punctum fixum-punctum mobile model" that was introduced in prior studies, for generation of the most effective intentional acceleration of a body part the intersegmental neuromuscular onset succession has to spread successively from the rotation axis (punctum fixum) toward the body part that shall be accelerated (punctum mobile). The aim of the present study was to investigate...
متن کاملLongitudinal sequencing in intramuscular coordination: A new hypothesis of dynamic functions in the human rectus femoris muscle
The punctum fixum-punctum mobile model has been introduced in previous publications. It describes general principles of intersegmental neuromuscular succession patterns to most efficiently generate specific movement intentions. The general hypothesis of this study is that these principles-if they really do indicate a fundamental basis for efficient movement generation-should also be found in in...
متن کاملPunctum to punctum adhesion after dacryocystorhinostomy using silicone tubes.
Adhesion between the upper and lower punctum is described after dacryocystorhinostomy with silicone stent intubation. The cause is attributed to trauma at the punctal openings and a tight silicone stent loop. Advice is given on how to avoid the complication.
متن کاملSupernumerary Punctum on the Caruncle.
SUPERNUMERARY puncta were noted by MacKenzie (1854), several cases of supernumerary puncta on the lid margin, the skin of the eyelid, and the conjunctival surface have been reported in the literature. Occasionally, we have also seen cases of supernumerary puncta on the lid margin. We have found only two references (Schoute, 1901; Hamburger, 1937) to supernumerary puncta on the caruncle in the a...
متن کاملNasal dermoids: the significance of a midline punctum.
Nasal dermoids are rare and their diagnosis is often delayed until complications occur. Signs such as a midline nasal punctum may be noted at birth but the significance of this finding frequently passes unrecognised. The cases are reported of two patients which illustrate the typical presentation of these lesions and their subsequent management is discussed.
